What Gabriela Rivas Can Do pt. 2
You know what I've been thinking? This series would be a smidgen more interesting if it were a vlog. I'll look into it. Something to think about it.
Selecting the topic of this post was a challenge for me because I wasn't sure if I wanted to highlight how I am now certified in Inbound Marketing by HubSpot or if I wanted to touch base on the creative services I offer. Seeing how this is a series, however, I can talk about whichever one I want and save the other idea for next time.
Photography. My first love. I don't have an amazing back story with photography. I didn't sneak out one of my grandparents old camera and take photos of whatever I saw. I didn't use a film camera (not for lacking of trying). I fell in love with how pictures tell a story. They have this incredible aurora of emotions and you can feel whatever happened in that moment in the pictures. Who wouldn't want to be a part of that? I love story telling, but unfortunately my fictional writing has its limits. I love telling a story through pictures. Whatever that person felt or whatever that environment touched or created resonates with me and I want to share it with others.
I have been photographing professionally since 2010 when I was asked to take additional photos at a wedding. It was a great experience and it was that moment I realized I wanted to work with people at photographing moments of their lives and giving them the photos I took. It has been a while since I have done a wedding and if I could go back and do the photoshoots differently, I would because I finally know what style I want and it's candid photos that look natural and human and it has soul in the image. But the work I did in the past isn't bad. I enjoy it (I am chuckling as I type this).
But what I have always wanted to do is not just take photos of people and real lives, but also travel. I greatly admire the work of Brandon Stanton, Humans of New York creator and photographer. Not only does he photograph people who live in or visit New York, he also travels and photographs these amazing people and shares their stories of their lives with the world and it's incredible. I don't know if I could ever do something like that, but the thought of traveling and taking photos of these amazing places, nature, cities, people living their lives, is so appealing to me.
That is why photography is my subject for today's post. In my last position I photographed what my company did. They were action shots but it felt like I was a part of something bigger. I wasn't just taking photos of people doing things on my fancy camera, I was sharing their story, their experience because they allowed me to be a part of it. That's a great pleasure for me because it combined my passion to want to work with people in a way that's, yeah familiar with many photographers, but as an artist who loves to be in the moment, it combined that passion to share and create.
I will always love imagery and the power of a great visual presentation. Sometimes when there are no words to describe a moment or what a person can do, or how a place looks and feels, you need a photo to capture the essence of the moment for others to see and experience themselves. Photography invites people to feel. That's what I can do. That's why I don't take photos as often as I used to when I first started, because now I feel so much and wish to capture those moments whenever possible. And sometimes those moments are so rare and precious that you treat it with care. I treat all of my creative-photographic experiences with care. And if I can find an opportunity where I can take photos as well as design and manage social media, that'd be fantastic.
Thanks for reading. I'm glad I shared this with you.
